Call Me Revenge

He is forty. He teaches his ten-year-old at home, runs a startup no one understands, and has just had the last fight of a fifteen-year marriage. He walked out. His daughter followed him, the way she always does. He never heard her stop.

There is no ransom. There are no demands. And the city has started to open him like a lock: a transformer's hum, the smell of wet cement, a stranger's laugh, and for three seconds he is inside a life he doesn't remember. He comes back knowing things. Which window a man will run for. How long a lie takes to reach a face.

The games he taught his daughter at the kitchen table were never games. Somewhere out there she is playing them, and leaving a trail only he can read.

The people who locked his past built him to tip the world's wars for whoever paid. They want him back.

Nobody pays him now. He decides.

Two names. One opens the weapon. One brings the father home. Only his daughter knows the second.
